About the Item

A monumentally large stone wall clock attributed to Esmond Burton. In 12 pieces with stylised foliage and two opposing gazelles with the bronze clock in the centre with gilt Roman numerals. This clock was removed from the Anglo American and DeBeers building located in Carlton House Terrace, Pall Mall London. An incredibly unusual piece of work, attributed to Esmond Burton a carver in wood and stone and modeller in plaster, born in East Molesey, Surrey. He trained with Laurence Arthur Turner. He was a member of the Master Carvers Association (President, 1957–59) and a member of the Art Workers’ Guild from 1919. He was also a member of the Vintners’ Company (Master, 1948).
