Original Rare Decorative Glazed Fireclay Bath by Twyfords

An antique Twyfords marbleised sink with a BICLAM cast iron stand from the Simon Kirby Museum of Bathroom Sanitaryware. Dating to circa 1883, this original Victorian sink would make a beautiful addition to a vintage bathroom or period style cloakroom. This sink sees a marbleised basin with a shaped splash back, decorative recessed soap dishes and clam shell overflow above an ornately cast iron standing bracket in a vibrant mustard colour, showcasing a centurion design to either side. The Simon Kirby Museum of Bathroom Sanitaryware Sanitaryware extraordinaire and enthusiast Simon Kirby was the proud owner of a rare and impressive collection of antique toilets, basins and baths. Until 2016 Kirby was the managing director of Thomas Crapper & Co; he spent more than 40 years carefully sourcing these specialist pieces, making it his vocation to ensure such rare and valuable sanitaryware was saved and preserved, creating what was known as the Thomas Crapper Museum. Over the years, the company museum has not been open to the public, with only a few history enthusiasts and keen customers having been invited to view. Names such as Thomas Crapper, George Jennings, Shanks, Doulton and Co and Twyfords form part of this outstanding collection that demonstrates the development of sanitaryware over the centuries. Although Kirby sold the iconic Thomas Crapper company nearly ten years ago, he remains an expert in the history of the ‘smallest room’ and now serves as a consultant to the Royal Household. An antique cast iron plunger bathtub with stylised fish shaped feet, by Ewart and Son Ltd, circa 1880. This cast iron piece is of English heritage and Victorian style; it would certainly make a perfect fit for a country home or vintage style townhouse. Its interesting fish shaped feet and smooth white painted finish only compliment its overall style. Ewart & Son (Est. 1834) Marked ‘Ewart and Son Ltd’ of Euston Road, London, this antique bath is a rare find. We have only ever seen one other bath by Ewart and Son, who are best known in English history for their water heaters and copper ventilators. For this reason, this copper bath is an unusual piece, becoming the focal point of any antique style bathroom.
