More information coming soon… This beautiful interior door was hand-carved in pine in Marseille, France, during the 1800s. The rich brown patina accentuates the three geometric panels that make up the door, with each panel having thin quarter-round molding.

    Repaired: Old fills to replace wood damaged by woodworm. A more recent restoration to a corner. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor losses. Good antique condition. Minor nicks and losses. Traces of old wood worm, which necessitated old fills. Very light age separations and oxidation to iron hardware. The gudgeons and handle are present, but there is no accompanying pintle hinge or lock.

Spanish furniture and architecturals of the 18th century, such as this pair of walnut wood entry doors, were highly influenced by French stylings. Hand-carved circa 1750, the doors feature deep, sinuous moldings, reminiscent of the curvaceous motifs seen during the reign of Louis XV. The amazing doors have a rich brown patina that accentuates the charm of the carvings, which are also enhanced by the visible screws used to join the pieces of walnut wood. Comprised of five carved panels per door, each carving is similar: a rough rectangle with rounded ends and barbed counter curves. The three smaller panels are orientated horizontally, surrounding the two larger and vertically arranged panels. A thickly scrolled bronze pull can be seen on each door, also functioning as door knockers (the door on the right has commensurate wear from the pull striking the wood).
