Japanese Antique Iron-Plated Door 1860s-1900s / Low Table Wabi Sabi

About the Item

This is an old Japanese-made large iron-plated sliding door. It was made during the Meiji period (1860s-1900s) and is believed to have been used in warehouses at the time. The structure is a solid wooden frame made of cedar wood with iron plates carefully stretched over it. The iron plates have oxidized with age, and beautiful rust has spread over the entire structure. The rust is not uniform, and the differences in shading and texture create a landscape that resembles an abstract painting. It is not artificially created, but an “accidental beauty” created by time and nature. It has something in common with “wabi-sabi,” a uniquely Japanese sense of beauty that does not seek perfection. It has a rugged yet quiet presence that adds depth and power to a space. This sliding door can of course be reused as a fixture, but we also recommend using it as a tabletop. By combining it with different materials, you can create an even more modern space. The surface has been cleaned, so you can use it with confidence as soon as you receive it. With its appearance as an art piece, this piece combines practicality and beauty. Weight: approx. 30 kg _____________________________________________ Our Philosophy Objects always tell the truth. All I can do is just to face with them sincerely and give them deep affection as much as I can. There is no boundary of nationalities and of eras in beauty. But I think now is the time we choose 'Japanese style' and it will be the best way to remind us of what we are losing today and to question us about an essence of beauty again. I hope that you can touch the memories which the objects here have, feel and think of something invisible but exists undoubtedly.
