Set of Art Deco Gates w/ Leaping Gazelles, France, possibly Subes

About the Item

This large, rare set of early 1930s, French wrought iron gates are brilliantly designed and expertly crafted, exhibiting the abstracted gazelle forms and calligraphic iron bars that characterized the work of Raymond Subes and other masters in the 1930s. This set of four gates is especially reminiscent of a set of Subes gates -- featuring strands of iron intersecting and ending in space -- that was sold by a French auction house in 2007. The two central panels have curving top edges, and they are flanked by two other rectangular panels.
