Pair of 17th Century Oak Armoire Doors from France

About the Item

Originally part of an antique armoire, these oak doors were hand carved in France during the 1600s. The beautiful doors are rectilinear in theme, with various geometric motifs and luxurious molding. Comprised of three panels with different decorative elements, both doors have retained their ovate handles (although one of the lozenge attachments has been replaced with a similarly themed antique mount). The upper panel has a central carving of a fanned palmette encircled by a ring of fluting. Additional fluting emanates towards the corners of a square border of chevrons that surround the medallion. The recessed panel has multiple layers of quarter round and cavetto molding that mirrors the moldings that surround the entire door. 12 Quadrilateral carvings with two layers of molding embellish the center panel, which also contains the handles and an adjacent pierced and shaped escutcheon. The bottom panel is once again recessed, with a raised octagon atop two layers of molding. Our pair of 17th century oak armoire doors have a rich patina that is accentuated by several coats of French wax. Use them in the kitchen for doors for a walk-in pantry or cupboard panels. They would also make unique decorative wall panels.

Pair of Tall 19th Century Chapel Doors from Belgium
Located in Dallas, TX
Hand-carved in Belgium, circa 1860, this 11 foot tall pair of doors (132.88 inches) were recently salvaged from a Belgian chapel. They can be considered of the Gothic style, which is sometimes referred to as “pointed architecture”, because of the prevalence of pointed arches in buildings. Each door is composed of six vertical planks constructed with mortise and tenon joinery. All planks have been adorned with iron pyramid protuberances, placed in a repeating pattern. The planks and iron retain their white paint, now naturally weathered over the years, perfect for those who appreciate original condition. At over 11 feet tall, these 19th century chapel doors...

Pair of Circa 1750 Walnut Wood Entry Doors from Spain
Located in Dallas, TX
Spanish furniture and architecturals of the 18th century, such as this pair of walnut wood entry doors, were highly influenced by French stylings. Hand-carved circa 1750, the doors feature deep, sinuous moldings, reminiscent of the curvaceous motifs seen during the reign of Louis XV. The amazing doors have a rich brown patina that accentuates the charm of the carvings, which are also enhanced by the visible screws used to join the pieces of walnut wood. Comprised of five carved panels per door, each carving is similar: a rough rectangle with rounded ends and barbed counter curves. The three smaller panels are orientated horizontally, surrounding the two larger and vertically arranged panels. A thickly scrolled bronze pull can be seen on each door, also functioning as door knockers (the door on the right has commensurate wear from the pull striking the wood). Because these Spanish entry doors...
