About the Item
Monumental Louis XVI black marble mantle in excellent condition. A true masterpiece.
The carving is of such a high quality showing the true art of the stonemason.
This is an one of a kind antique mantel which could be used in any timeless interior.
The fireplace is carved from the perfect black marble Noir de Mazy, which has been extracted since the Renaissance from the quarries of Mazy - Namur - Belgium. This "black gold" has been extracted underground and is therefore one of the world's most exclusive marbles. Noir de Mazy is a pure black marble without any pollution or veins. The very fine and homogeneous structure of the marble and the complete absence of fossils and calcite veins make the stone suitable for marble cultivation for centuries.
Antique marble fireplace
This antique fireplace mantel is dated 19th century and featured with "L.Y." the initials of the original stone sculptor. Both the legs and the frieze are decorated with beautiful moulures and cannelings.
