A very large and superior quality Louis XV style Rococo surround in rare Breche Violette marble. The deeply carved jambs and frieze in typical Rococo manner with stiff acanthus and shell carvings. The moulded serpentine shelf following the lines of the mouldings on the frieze. An extraordinary piece in seize, stature and marble. Mid-19th century.
