Large Early Antique Scottish Arts & Crafts Fire Grate Basket
About the Item
A unique and elegant large early cast iron and brass Scottish Arts & Crafts fire grate basket in the Lorimer manner. An arched shape fire back inset with a stylized sunflower, the three bar fire front showing a central rope effect design to the bar, topped with acorn shaped finials- flanked by large steeple standards supported on wide scrolled feet, capped with large flower finials.
North Berwick, East Lothian, Edinburgh 1900.
Sir Robert Lorimer designed many houses in North Berwick at this time, using the notable blacksmith Thomas Hadden.

A magnificently wide and substantially elegant early 19th century Regency brass, iron and steel fire grate basket in the Greco-Roman manner. A slow arched back plate with scalloped sides centered by a grate comprising of four geometric rings linked by-and supported with cushion spacers. Flanked by polished side posts capped by flambeau finials- supporting wide polished brass side wing sections, below an apron of fluted pierced steel with intermittent circular rosettes. All supported on high half fluted column Balustrade Andirons surmounted by a pair of large urns with swags and tied ribbon festoons, and capped with flambeau finials.
