About the Item

A monumental 19th Century three - tier garden fountain from Italy in hand carved limestone with a weathered patina. Four hand sculpted Caryatids surround the center base raising the water. Each of the detailed limestone shells spill water into the ground water basin. The second tier is supported by four dauphins grotesque and large Acanthus leaves. The top lobed fountain bowl is surmounted by the ancient Roman god Neptune. The statue is holding the carved dolphin in his right hand, which represents prosperity, and a trident in metal in his left hand. The enormous water basin has a quatre feuilles shape. Wear consistent with age and use.
