18th Century Large Sign with Eagle Crowned Iron Double Sided Italian Sign

A stunning hand-made 18th century Italian Wrough Iron Sign with Eagle, an Italian sign in hand-forged wrought iron, ready to hang either outdoors or indoors as a decorative element. A double shaped frame decorated with scrolls, floral and plant motifs encloses an eagle in the center, surmounted by an oval-shaped crown with acanthus leaves. The eagle is depicted with its body in front and wings spread; in Greek and Latin mythology it is the bird sacred to Zeus, god of lightning and clouds.The eagle is also a symbol of power, victory and prosperity Dating from the late 18th century, this monumental sign has Northern Italian origin but comes from a private villa in Franciacorta. It is in good condition, traces of gilt decoration can be seen on both sides of the sign, minimal missing, two leaves. It is an ideal and unique architectural element for the entrance of a house, castle or villa. This artwork is shipped from Italy.
