C Dresser for Colebrookdale Aesthetic Movement Cast Iron Garden Canopy Seat Ends

About the Item

Designed by Dr C Dresser for Colebrookdale A cast iron Aesthetic Movement garden Canopy Seat named 'Waterplants'. The first image here is an example to show what it will look like when the seat and back have been made. This design no. 206162 was registered and patented by the Coalbrookdale Foundry at the Public Records Office on 18th February 1867 and is seat no. 45 in their 1875 casting's catalogue. This Canopy model is rare with apertures in the arms designed to hold the upright poles of a canvas canopy. The poles and canopy would need to be made because they are not present. Water plant benches were originally available to buy with a wooden slatted back like this one here or with a decorative cast iron back like the one in the period image shown here. The sides have now been dismantled for shipping therefore the seat and back can be purpose made to length. Measurement of just the ends: Height 37 1/2", width between the feet 22", depth of each end 2".
