Japanese Edo Period Kannon Stone Buddha/1700-1850/Garden Ornament

About the Item

We are pleased to present a simple stone Buddha of Kannon Bosatsu, made in Japan during the Edo period (circa 1700-1850). Kannon Bosatsu is known in Buddhism as a merciful savior who rescues those who seek his help from all kinds of hardships and difficulties. This stone statue depicts Kannon Bosatsu as a standing figure gently holding a lotus flower in his left hand. The lotus flower symbolizes purity and enlightenment in Buddhism and represents the compassionate nature of Kannon Bosatsu. This stone Buddha is characterized by a simple and gentle sculptural expression rather than delicacy. The curves of the body are soft and provide quiet healing to the viewer. The expression on the face is a little blurred due to age-related deterioration, but this is a characteristic of antiques and gives the statue a unique flavor and taste, conveying the calm, peaceful, and compassionate expression of the Bodhisattva Kannon. It is a moderate size (20.6 cm wide, 12.8 cm deep, 43.2 cm tall) and will warmly welcome visitors when displayed at an entrance. If placed under the eaves or in a corner of the garden, it will look beautiful as the seasons change. If you place it in a Japanese or Western room, it will create a quiet and healing space where you can forget the busyness of daily life, and you will feel comfortable and calm just by being in the room. The gentle texture and gentle appearance of this stone Buddha are in harmony with the passage of time, giving it a depth that cannot be found in the modern world. It is recommended as an interior decoration that brings tranquility and gentleness to your daily space. Weight: 14.65kg

He often holds a staff in his right hand and a hoju (wish-fulfilling jewel) in his left—symbols of his power to guide souls and grant comfort. This particular Jizo statue...
