Stone Buddha of the Edo Period in Japan/1700-1850/Tathagata-seated statue

About the Item

I would like to introduce a rare Japanese stone Buddha, “Amida Nyorai,” created in the mid-Edo period (around 1700-1850). Amida Nyorai is the Buddha who governs the “Pure Land of Paradise” (an ideal world of peace) in the Buddhist world. He has long been revered by the Japanese as a being who saves people, liberates them from all suffering, and provides them with peace of mind and eternal happiness. This stone Buddha has a calm, elegant, and solemn atmosphere as a statue of Buddha. The face is calm and gentle, and its expression of quiet contemplation with eyes closed will bring deep peace and tranquility to the viewer. Although this is a simple sculpture, the texture of the stone has developed a beautiful texture over time. The tip of the head is slightly chipped, but it is not so much that it bothers the viewer, but rather adds to the antique charm of the piece. Among old stone Buddhas in Japan, the number of Amida Nyorai stone Buddhas is surprisingly small and rare. Therefore, if placed in a corner of a garden, it can create a quiet presence and a calm Japanese atmosphere. Especially when placed in a moss garden, beside a small pond, or by a bamboo grove, it will enhance the scenery as it changes with the seasons. The size (30.3 cm wide, 15 cm deep, and 47.3 cm high) is also suitable for use in a Japanese-style room or a Western-style room, and will bring a sense of serenity and charm to an alcove or a shelf. The appearance of the stone Buddha adds an elegant depth to modern living spaces. I hope you will enjoy this special stone Buddha, which is precious, tasteful, and will create a calm and serene space. Weight: 23.75kg [We are a company consisting of four different stores with four different brands. We offer a wide range of attractive items from all over the world with a focus on Japanese items. We offer Japanese antique furniture and tools that are different from the Japanese antique furniture and art that have been appreciated abroad. These tools were used in private homes and farmhouses in the past. They have been passed through a long time and have an attractive taste. The reality is that many of these items are now being discarded along with the demolition of houses. We are on a mission to re-evaluate these fascinating old objects and preserve them for future generations. And we have seen tens of thousands of items so far. We have used that experience to list the most fascinating items here. We can do this because of our long experience. We will rediscover the "beauty" produced in the life and culture of the common people, which is different from the Japanese art and culture that is known and scattered around the world, and present it to the world. ]

He often holds a staff in his right hand and a hoju (wish-fulfilling jewel) in his left—symbols of his power to guide souls and grant comfort. This particular Jizo statue...
