Fine pair of 19th century carved mahogany torcheres by Morison & Co
About the Item
Fine pair of carved mahogany torcheres by Morison & Co circa 1890.
We are pleased to present this fine pair of torchere stands made by Morison & co of Edinburgh.
Morison & co, established in 1808 were amoung the finest furniture makers in Scotland until the early 20th century. Our pair are stamped on the bottom.
Very much in the liege style the profusely carved cup provides a surface of just over 9 inches for a pot or decorative item. 3 flowing supports, carved with acanthus leaf detailing reach a central carved finial. Supports carry on again into a scroll, united by a floor level moulded stretcher, standing on flat bun feet. Each weighted in the base for stability.
Minor surface marks and fading, overall very good condition and ready for the grand hallway or entrance.
