Large Painted and Carved Wood Neoclassical Planter

About the Item

An unusually large, and deeply sculpted and painted wood planter or jardinière, in the Louis XVI style (late 19th century). The planter appears to have been stripped of some coats of paint, down to its originally grey-green paint and white gesso. Neoclassical ornamentation consists of central torchere and quiver, boughs of holly, and various rosettes.
