A large pair of antique Renaissance Revival Italian maiolica (majolica) pottery wall pockets or planters, circa 1890, possibly Deruta. An unusual pair of large antique Italian maiolica pottery wall pockets or planters, which can be placed outside or inside, such planters were very often fixed into a wall and adhered with mortar and planted with herbs or the like for a kitchen garden. Pottery from Deruta in Umbria, located in central Italy has been known for the production of fine maiolica pottery since the 12th century The pockets are finely glazed and hand-painted with a portrait of a king & queen in renaissance costume, the oranage ground with decoration of green, orahnge, cream & blue. Condition is excellent, this pair of beautiful Italian maiolica wal pockets are ready to grace your space.
