Anja Notini's Bowl: A Celebration of Ceramic Artistry, Studio Made, Sweden

About the Item

Anja Marita Notini (1940-2018) was a Swedish author, photographer, journalist, ceramicist, and painter. She was born in Stockholm. Anja worked for the magazine Femina from 1964 to 1980 before transitioning to freelancing as an author and cultural journalist. She also gave lectures at art schools and universities. Throughout her career, Notini created several works in art and ceramics, with numerous exhibitions, including a notable one at Waldemarsudde in 2017. She came to work mainly in earthenware - blackware or smoke fired. She made powerful objects in the shape of vases, dishes and spherical pots. Her work is represented at the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm. Among her published works are Krukmakare – möte med tradition (1985), Potters – Meeting with Tradition. and Konstnärens rum (1995) The Artists Room 2024 Anja Notini's bowls sold for a significant amount due to a combination of factors that highlight her artistic significance and the market's current interest in her work. Notini, known for her craftsmanship and the unique aesthetic of her ceramics, has garnered attention from collectors and art enthusiasts alike. The high price can be attributed to her established reputation in the art world, the increasing value of handcrafted and artistically significant ceramics, and possibly the specific event or auction context where her work was featured. This trend influenced by the growing trend of appreciating contemporary ceramics as both functional art and collectible items.
