About the Item

This is an old wooden vessel, believed to have been made in Asia—likely in the Southeast Asian region. While its original use remains unclear, several holes are carved into the upper rim, suggesting that it may once have been suspended or carried with cords. The true charm of this piece lies in its material and form. It was sculpted from a large burl—a natural outgrowth on a tree—meticulously hollowed out from a single block of wood. The organic energy of the wood and its flowing, irregular contours are powerfully expressed. Swirling, marble-like grain patterns emerge across the surface, evoking the beauty of an abstract painting created by nature itself. It is believed to have been made between the 19th and early 20th century. The aged patina and rich coloration of the wood speak to the passage of time and lend the piece a quiet depth. Weighing approximately 2.45 kg, it has a solid, grounding presence. It pairs beautifully with dry branches or flowers as a vase, and also stands out as an objet d’art when displayed on its own—adding a serene accent to any space. Depending on how it's used, this piece can harmonize effortlessly with both Asian-inspired and modern interiors. A highly recommended item.
