About the Item

This antique under-glaze, hand-painted decorative porcelain wall-plate/dish was made by artist/designer Nils Emil Lundström (1865-1960) for the Swedish porcelain manufacturer Rörstrand where he worked between the years of 1896 and 1935. A skilled painter, designer and ceramicist, he was one of their most important artists during the art nouveau era. His work was exhibited at the world's fair in Paris 1900 as well as several other major international exhibitions. This rare wall-plate/dish was most likely made between 1896 and 1914 and it is signed NL (for Nils Emil Lundström). A part from the painted green Rörstrand stamp, the plate also features the 3 crowns blind stamp of Rörstrand and the form number S2 (see photo). It depicts a beautiful, romantic, but at the same time somewhat dramatic, forest scene in green and blue subtly changing shades. The motif and the colors are very typical for the art nouveau era. In very good antique condition: no chips, no cracks, no repairs. A few very minor signes of wear/scratches on the surface only visible when held up against the light. Quite remarkable condition considering its' great age. Dimension: diameter 22.5 cm/ 9", height 4 cm/ 1 1/2". Weight: 536 g/ 1.2 lbs.
