Antique Chinese Taste Tianqi/Chongzhen Dish Porcelain Ming Plate China Old

About the Item

A very nicely decorated plate. Late Ming. Prunus blossom and Dragonfly great symbolism Symbol of Winter, corresponding to the month of January. One of the "Three Friends of Winter". Emblem of beauty, purity and longevity, for it is believed that Laozi was born under its branches. In modern China Prunus is the National Flower, its petals signifying the five peoples: Han, Manchu, Mongol, Mohammedan and Tibetan. The ferocious and veracious predator of other insects, the dragonfly is considered a useful friend. It is an emblem of summer as they overwinter in the form of grubs and their temporary existence in the air can symbolize fleeting moments. As it sounds the same as qīng it is used to symbolize purity and this makes it a common pairing with the pure, white lotus flower.
