Blue Chalcedony Agate Bowl, Hand-Carved, Italy c. 1960s

About the Item

Handcrafted in Italy during the 1960s, this shallow bowl has been carved from a thick slab of natural blue chalcedony agate. Measuring 15.5 cm in width, 11.5 cm in depth, and 2.5 cm in height, it presents a striking contrast between the rough-hewn exterior and the finely polished interior — a visual balance between nature's raw form and the precision of modern stone craft. The surface of the chalcedony retains its high-gloss finish, revealing banded layers in soft tonal blues, characteristic of this semi-precious quartz. Its form is simple yet deliberate, with a shallow cavity carved at the centre, inviting use as a vide-poche or decorative accent. In good condition for its age and material, with the stone's surface remaining smooth and luminous. A tactile, meditative object, it offers both visual depth and a subtle nod to the enduring belief in chalcedony's calming, communicative properties.
