About the Item
Exquisite "Corso" Ceramic Dish by Ingrid Atterberg for Upsala Ekeby. This beautifully crafted rectangular ceramic dish from the "Corso" series was designed by renowned ceramist Ingrid Atterberg for Upsala Ekeby. It features a white glossy glaze adorned with geometric relief patterns and interspersed colored squares, set against a matte brown background. Deeply stamped on the underside with “UE,” “Sweden,” “Abg,” and model number 2147, this piece was produced between 1954 and 1963.
Ingrid Atterberg (1920–2008) created numerous classic items for Upsala Ekeby from the 1940s to the 1960s, with the "Corso" series being one of her most famous, comprising 11 earthenware objects, including bowls, dishes, and vases. Each piece reflects Atterberg's distinctive style and craftsmanship.
About Ingrid Atterberg
Born on May 11, 1920, in Härnösand, Sweden, Ingrid Atterberg was a celebrated ceramist closely associated with Upsala Ekeby. In 1969, she established her own ceramics workshop in Uppsala, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of innovative mid-century modern designs.
About Upsala Ekeby
Founded in 1886, Upsala Ekeby initially focused on brick manufacturing but later expanded to include wall tiles, tile stoves, and household ceramics. The incorporation of the Gefle porcelain factory in 1935 further solidified its position in the ceramics industry. Production ceased in 1977, marking the end of an era for this iconic Swedish manufacturer.
