About the Item

An exceptional English playing cards box dating to the 1860s suitable for both bridge and standard card games. Crafted in pearwood and secured with bronze strapping the box features rosewood edging on the interior top and bottom. The lid is decorated with a charming motif that displays playing cards adding a whimsical and thematic touch. Inside the box is lined in rich purple velvet and moiré silk and includes original gaming components such as pencils chips and has playing cards. The interior depth is approximately one and a half inches. A beautifully preserved piece of Victorian leisure culture. No key present.
