About the Item

An art deco guilloche enamel box designed by Deakin & Francis. This is a fabulous squared antique case-box, created in the city of Birmingham England at the silversmiths of Deakin & Francis, back in the 1935. The beautiful box has been crafted with great art deco geometric patterns and beveled borders in solid .925/.999 standard silver, with 24 karats gilded interiors. The unusual box is embellished with a gorgeous engine-turned guilloche patterns, which are topped with vivid green and creamy-white translucent glass enamel. The box is fitted with a concealed six-barrels hinged lid with a pressure pusher lock. Deakin & Francis The company was founded in 1786 by Benjamin Woolfield, Deakin & Francis have over 230 years of heritage. As England's oldest manufacturing jewelers, the Deakin & Francis factory remains in the same building today as it began in, dating back to the Industrial Revolution. The company was established in Harper’s Hill House (15-17 Regent Place). In 1840 Mr. C W S Deakin took control with his business partner Mr. C W B Moore. On the latter’s retirement. Mr. S. H. Deakin joined his uncle, and this partnership continued until Mr. Deakin, senior, gave up his interest. Mr. H. Francis then joined Mr. S. H. Deakin, and the firm has since traded under the name of Deakin and Francis. The business is now led by James and Henry Deakin, the 7th generation of Deakin’s at the helm. Hallmarks: Both parts are stamped with British marks; the rampant lion for England, the mark of the anchor for the city of Birmingham, the maker's mark D&F associated to the silversmiths and jewelers DEAKIN & FRANCIS, and the gothic letter code L for the assay date of 1935-36. Guilloché Is a term used in fine jewelry or objects de Vertu to enhance the appearance of boxes, frames, brooches, rings or pendants. Guilloché enamel refers to metal pieces that have been given the Guilloché treatment and then covered with a translucent layer of enamel, giving the geometric patterns underneath the enamel a colorful hue. Collateral: This box is accompanied by a presentation jewelry pouch. Condition: The overall condition of this Deakin & Francis box is excellent. Beside the little normal wear, there is no trace of damage to the silver.
