About the Item

This exquisite letter box, crafted in Puebla, Mexico, during the early 20th century, is a testament to the region's rich tradition of marquetry. Made from fine fruitwood, the box showcases intricate inlaid designs throughout its surface. The lower front and back panels feature elegant pineapple motifs, symbolizing hospitality. The lid is adorned with a striking pair of five-pointed dark wood stars set within larger light wood stars, all encompassed by elaborate geometric patterns. Additional stylized geometric designs embellish the cover's rim and lower side panels, highlighting the artisan's meticulous attention to detail. This letter box not only serves as a functional storage piece but also as a beautiful example of Mexican craftsmanship. While the key is missing, the box remains in excellent condition with only minor surface scratches, reflecting its age and use.
