Early 20th Century Silver Plated Biscuit Box / Humidor by Mappin & Webb, England

About the Item

A very handsome silver plated biscuit box or humidor of timeless design, having a rectangular body with a hinged and partially domed lid trimmed with a neoclassical inspired reeded edge, overtop a conforming flat raised on four compressed bun feet. The underside bearing makers marks for Mappin & Webb. (Mappin & Webb originated in Sheffield England in 1775). In very fine overall condition with only minor rubbing to a small area of the lids outer surface. In addition to its intended use, this handsome box would also function very nicely as a tea caddy or quite possibly as a cigar humidor.
