A luminous French blue opaline glass box from the Napoleon III period, circa 1860, beautifully proportioned and richly hued. Measuring 5.5 inches wide by 3.5 inches deep and 2 inches high, this refined jewel of a casket is crafted in a radiant turquoise-blue opaline glass—an iconic material prized in 19th-century French decorative arts for its milky translucency and saturated color.
The hinged lid and base are mounted with finely chased ormolu bronze bands featuring a delicate foliate motif, typical of the refined bronze work produced during the Second Empire. The interior is smooth and immaculate, and the original hinge and clasp remain intact and functional. The form is softly rounded, with a subtle polish that enhances the depth of the glass.
