German Jugendstil Art Nouveau Box Erhard & Sohne

About the Item

German Jugendstil brass mounted box. The box of rectangular form with twin loop angles and artistic finial. The box decorated with inlaid roses and foliage with a convex lid and curved design. Mounted within a wood case with original key. The box remains unsigned however this is a known model by Erhard & Sohne of which we firmly attribute the box. Notes Erhard & Sohne was founded in 1844 by Gottlieb Erhard and his two sons  in Schwäbisch Gmünd, about 50km east of Stuttgart in Baden-Wutttemberg, Germany.  During the company's life, they made a variety of products including haberdashery also silver plated or gold plated brass and bronze, dollshouse accessories and toys and obtained a world patent for the manufacture of brass inlay in 1904. They amassed over 3000 employees across 2 factories in 1900 The company took a total transformation in 1945 and specialised in Unimog range of 4-wheel drive utility vehicles and became an important factory for tracked vehicles after WWII. Jugendstil - (Youth Style) was an artistic movement in the decorative arts, that was influential primarily in Germany and elsewhere in Europe to a lesser extent from about 1895 until about 1910. It was the German counterpart of the Art Nouveau period. Measurements 11.5cm High x 19cm Wide x 11.5cm Deep Condition very good condition.
