About the Item

Magnificent Japanese contemporary decorative porcelain box/centerpiece, a museum-quality exhibition piece extremely intricately hand-painted in vivid blue, orange and green on a stunning octagonal shape body, a signed masterpiece by highly acclaimed award-winning master porcelain artist from the historic Kutani region of Japan. This artist’s work is displayed together with the works of other Kutani master porcelain artists and “living national treasures” in the concourse of the Kanazawa Station – recognized as “one of the six most beautiful railway stations in the world.” His work has been selected time and again by the Imperial Household to be used as gifts for foreign dignitaries visiting Japan. This mesmerizing octagonal porcelain box is a masterpiece of “precision engineered porcelain” that ensures an exact fit between the lower part of the box and its ornately decorated cover. The cover features a stunning display of pomegranates represented in deep orange hues and bursting open to reveal its lush core, and a gorgeous bird that is about to take flight from an adjoining branch. The moment is frozen in time against a background of pure white to convey an exceptional sense of three-dimensional movement. An intricate and extremely detailed geometric pattern in turquoise, red, yellow and brown on pure white background, the artist’s signature design, decorates the eight panels across this astonishing porcelain decorative box. Inside the box more surprises are waiting to be explored. The inner surface of the cover features chestnuts and elegant bands of intricate geometric patterns in burgundy, turquoise, yellow and brown. Here again, the chestnuts have burst open to yield their kernels. Berries in green, purple and red with attractive foliage decorate the lower portion of the box with yet another intricate geometric pattern in purple yellow and red in a thick band decorating the outer edge. For this truly exceptional piece, The artist has given substantial thickness to the overglaze to generate a highly textured feel that creates an illusion of movement on multiple levels of the porcelain palette. The artist's signature geometric pattern, which continues from the sides of the top cover to the lower reaches of the box, poses a difficult Challenge for the artist who must carefully “engineer” the two parts of the box to fit tightly and to create a solid uninterrupted design layout, notwithstanding the shrinkage in the porcelain that occurs during multiple firings. Inspired by traditional Kutani designs, his distinctive signature style combines gracefully understated flora and birds with detailed geometric patterns. These elements comprising his signature style have earned the admiration and appreciation of the admirers of his masterpieces everywhere. This exquisite piece showcases all elements of his style to create a stunning natural scene framed by a virtuoso display of intricately positioned geometric patterns. Kutani porcelain kilns with 360 years of history are noted as Japan’s finest, continuing to introduce amazing shapes and exquisitely hand-painted porcelain pieces. This outstanding extraordinary porcelain box comes in a custom-made wooden case signed by the artist. Dimensions: W 12 in D 12 in H 4 in

Mesmerizing Japanese contemporary decorative signed porcelain box, extremely intricately hand-painted in vivid red, blue and yellow with generous gold details, on a stunningly shaped porcelain body. Kinrande style hand-painting represents Arita porcelain, which appeared in the Edo period (1688-1704) and has been handed down to the present day. The colors are deep, and red and gold are used luxuriously, and flower patterns are drawn on the surface of the vessel. This style is thought to reflect the spirit of the Genroku era, which was economically abundant. It is highly decorative and many kinrande works, such as large lidded vases...
