Mid Century Falcon’s Eye Intarsia Hardstone Box, Italy, c. 1960
About the Item
An exquisite vintage intarsia box veneered in falcon’s eye quartz, made in Italy, c. 1960.
This decorative box has beautiful presence thanks to the deep rich blue-black colouring of the stone.
It has wonderful lustre and a lush chatoyancy such that the subtle colour bandings glimmer in the light - very hard to capture in photos or a video.
The interior is of quartz with light brown-golden seams that echo the highlights in the falcon’s eye exterior.
Falcon’s eye is also known as hawk's eye or blue tiger's eye, said to symbolise courage and intuition. It is in the same quartz hardstone family as tiger’s eye but with a deep blue hue which has a very attractive polish and presence.
