About the Item

Rare Nicole Frères music box – exclusively playing Mozart Beautiful Swiss music box by Nicole Frères, made in the second half of the 19th century. Wooden case: Exterior features a realistic wood grain simulation, with the lid inlaid with rosewood, lemonwood, and other exotic woods. The interior is finished in rich red lacquer. Original tune card is present – Gamme No. 2386, Serial No. 41529. The serial number is also engraved on the underside of the case. Mechanism: Plays four melodies, all by Mozart – a very rare and desirable feature. Controls are located on the right side. The Nicole Frères signature is clearly visible on both the comb and the baseplate. A rare collector’s piece in excellent condition – ideal for connoisseurs of classical music and antique mechanical marvels.

This is a lovely antique Swiss 8 airs Gonçalo Alves cylinder music box, manufactured by Qualite Excelsior Sondrite Extra Puissant Harmonie, circa 1870 in date. The Goncalo Alves case is inlaid and crossbanded with boxwood inlay and superb marquetry decoration of musical instruments. It is raised on a plinth base and is fitted with brass carrying handles.
