About the Item

A scarce Continental heavily distressed leather flatware storage box chest, 20th century, finely hand-crafted, rectangular solid wood case, domed travel trunk luggage-form. The vintage European flatware chest features a dome shaped hinged lid top affixed with a distinctive sculptural frog figure finial handle, accented with running tacked nailhead ornamentation, lifting open to reveal a velvet-lined interior fitted with dividers to accommodate flatware / silverware / cutlery / etc... The exterior flanked with a pair of elegant patinated brass Chippendale batwing drawer pull style (carry) handles. A protective felt covered verso keeps your sideboard or tabletop safe. Provenance: From a fine Wimberley, Texas estate; acquisition from highly reputable auction house Austin Auction Gallery, Austin, Texas. Dimensions: (approx) 7.5" High, 20" Wide, 13.25" Deep As warm and attractive as it is useful, with the ideal size and proportions to be used as intended or repurposed for a variety of different uses, including as a decorative table box, letter / document chest, storage of serveware / barware / dinnerware, fashion accessories, wine bottle holder, jewel casket, lidded caddy, the possibilities as endless as your imagination. Overall in great shape, original antique/vintage condition. Strong and sturdy, with outstanding rich patina, warm and rustic, highly desirable heavily worn, faded, crackling, distressed leather with expected wear and losses to finish, lacking some nailhead accents, nothing that detracts from the display, but only adds to the overall rich antique character and charm.
