About the Item
19th Century North-African Brass Hanukkah Lamp Menorah with original patina.
Hanukkah Oil Lamp Judaica Jewish cast Metal Bronze Hanukkah Menorah with birds, lions and flowers.
Cast brass Hanukkah Lamp, Morocco (probably, Sefrou), 19th century.
A tree in the center topped by the Shamash, surrounded by 2 lions and birds on branches.
The side plates also feature apertures in vegetal motifs and a bird at the top of each plate.
A row of long 8 pinched oil fonts on the bottom portion to hold the oil for each night of Hanukkah and one cup on the top to serve as the servant light.
The condition is good antique with green verdigris that can be cleaned off.
I will leave that for the new owner as some like the patina result that age contributes.
Antique Hanukkah lamp, North Africa, Morocco, circa 1880.
Dimensions:
8.75 inches tall and is 7 1/4 inches wide 2 inches deep.
Note: The 9-branched candelabrum is a hanukiyah or Hannukah lamp. A lamp is designed to hold eight light for the eight nights of Hanukkah; the ninth candle is the Shamash [attendant] that is used to light the other candles.
NOTE: A Menorah is not only the most important, but the oldest symbol in Judaism.
It is like other works with this type of cast workmanship as described in the book Lighting the Way to Freedom by Yaniv Ben Or.
