Art Deco was a design movement that started around the 1920s to the late 1930s. It encompassed a celebration of modern technology while also maintaining a glamorous and opulent aesthetic. Art Deco furniture would often have geometric detailing and shapes, with symmetrical lines, curves, and patterns. Exotic woods were often used like mahogany as well as jewel-tone colors. Designs also used bold arches with elongated forms that were taken from Cubism and the Vienna Secession.
