About the Item
This is an old Japanese natural wood Shokudai (candlestick).
It was made in the late Edo period (1860s-1900s), and the material used is probably coniferous cedar wood.
The texture of the natural wood itself is utilized, and the figure gently growing up from the root part has an organic strength and beauty.
There are no artificial straight lines or symmetries, and the accidental shapes created by nature are utilized as they are.
An iron needle is attached to the tip to hold a candle in place.
The total height including the needle is approximately 960 mm, which is extremely large, and wooden candlesticks of this scale are extremely rare.
The texture and darkening of the wood, created by years of use and the passage of time, tell the history of its actual use in past lifestyles.
More than a mere tool, it is a fascinating entity that contains the wisdom and aesthetic sense of life of our ancestors.
Its quiet appearance and strength embody the spirit of Japanese “wabi-sabi,” and it provides deep marginality and serenity in contemporary spaces.
Total height: approx. 960 mm (including hands)
Weight: 3.5 kg

Our Philosophy
Objects always tell the truth.
All I can do is just to face with them sincerely and give
them deep affection as much as I can.
There is no boundary of nationalities and of eras in beauty.
But I think now is the time we choose 'Japanese style' and it
will be the best way to remind us of what we are losing
today and to question us about an essence of beauty again.
I hope that you can touch the memories which the objects here have,
feel and think of something invisible but exists undoubtedly.
