Pair of 19th-Century Italian Giltwood Altar Prickets A striking pair of 19th-century Italian ecclesiastical altar prickets, finely carved in wood and richly finished in original gilt. These tall, architectural pieces were originally crafted for liturgical use, likely in a chapel or provincial church, and now offer a commanding decorative presence for refined interiors. Each pricket rests upon a solid triform base raised on bun feet, adorned with stylized rosettes and bordered by carved arcatures. The shaft features a classical baluster form with lotus leaf carvings, leading to an exuberant corona of acanthus leaves beneath the candle cup. The warm, aged patina reveals traces of bole red beneath the gilding, accentuating their antique character and hand-carved nature.
