About the Item
Still Standing Black Ceramic Candlesticks by Rachel Peters, In Stock
Crafted from black stoneware, Still Standing is a sculptural pair of hand-built candlesticks by British ceramic artist Rachel Peters. Their stacked, column-like forms evoke ancient totems and mid-century modernism in equal measure, drawing the eye with their interplay of symmetry and offset. The textured clay, rich in natural grit, gives the surface a tactile, volcanic presence that speaks to the raw beauty of the material. Each form is individually coiled and joined through a meditative, intuitive process, balancing strength, rhythm, and quiet energy.
Peters’ background in social work and her reconnection with clay in South Africa inform her emotive, grounded aesthetic. Based in the UK, she creates vessels and objects that celebrate the weight, imperfection, and poetry of form. Still Standing is a striking addition to both minimalist and expressive interiors.

Rachel Peters Ceramics
Inspired by the clean lines and natural materials of Danish design, Rachel seeks to create works that are both beautiful and calming. She finds harmony in soft forms, biomorphic shapes, and muted colours, allowing the materiality of the clay to shine through. Originally from the UK, Rachel’s journey with clay began as a reawakening after a career in social work and a life-changing move to South Africa. Now based back in the UK, her studio is a sanctuary for exploration and self-expression. ‘Clay is my therapy, my meditation, my connection to the earth. It is a reminder that even in the chaos of life, there is beauty to be found in the simple act of creation.’ Hand-built through coiling, her vessels and sculptures are a testament to slow, meditative craftsmanship. The focus is on form and texture – elegant shapes that need no decoration, adorned with the subtle nuances of grogged stoneware and a muted palette. Each piece is a tactile invitation to mindfulness and appreciation for the earth's raw beauty. Since launching her first collection, Rachel’s work has been widely exhibited in galleries in the UK, Europe and Canada. She has shown her work at prestigious events including Ceramic Art London and has been selected for publication in 100 Emerging Artworks Women’s Edition 2024 hosted by Arts to Hearts Project.
