A monumental architectural French 19th century neoclassical Revival gilt bronze mounted beige and red onyx longcase grandfather clock. The very impressive clock-case surmounted by a figure of seated Classical male figure, the face opening to an embossed gilt bronze dial with Roman and Arabic numerals behind the hinged gilt bronze mounted glass door, the sides of the clock-case each fitted with gilt bronze and gilt metal pierced quatrefoil visit doors, the twin-train movement stamped 'Brevete - S.G.D.G. and numbered 780, Paris circa 1890-1900. Measures: Height 110 inches (279.4 cm) Width 26 5/8 inches (67.6 cm) Depth 16 1/4 inches (41.3 cm).

This colorful pedestal clock has been crafted from fine red marble and green onyx, and beautifully decorated with gilt bronze (ormolu) and champlevé enamel. While a popular crafts material in ancient times, onyx was largely forgotten about until its rediscovery in the mid-19th century in Algeria by a French marble-worker called Delmonte. Onyx became highly fashionable in France following this discovery, and it was used to create a variety of decorative art objects. The clock features a green onyx cube-shaped case, which is surmounted by a slightly projecting red marble top. This top is fringed with champlevé enamel drapery-like motifs, with gilt bronze drop-finials. The case is mounted on its front with a circular dial, which features a central floral champlevé enamel motif, encircled by black Arabic Numerals. French Renaissance style gilt bronze and enamel mounted onyx longcase clock French, late 19th century Measures: Height 126cm, width 37cm, depth 30cm This colourful longcase clock was created in France in the late 19th Century. It has been crafted from red marble and green onyx and decorated with gilt bronze and champlevé enamel. The clock consists of a circular enamel dial, mounted onto a cube-shaped case, placed on a tall body which is set on a short marble plinth. The circular clock dial features Arabic numerals and is ornamented with gilt bronze and colourful champlevé enamel designs. This is set within a circular gilt bronze and enamel frame and mounted onto the green onyx block.
