About the Item

A superb original antique French Rococo clock by the famous maker Japy Freres, circa 1890. Beautifully detailed bronze case with C scrolls, acanthus and shell motifs. A charming cherub is seated to the top plays pipes. Fretted sound panels backed with fabric lighten the design. A glimpse of the pendulum swinging can just be seen. The dial is porcelain enamel on copper, cream with blue lettering and separate minute ring. It is complete with original finely fretted brass hands. There is a rubbed retailers signature to the dial. The rear door is glazed to allow the movement to be seen. The French movement is of high quality and is by Japy Freres. It is in excellent clean and running condition. Pendulum is an old replacement. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Condition of the case is excellent, the bronze patination is in lovely condition with a mellow antique colour. We have replaced the fabric with fresh. The dial has some slight damage at the 12 and 1 o'clock positions and some hairlines and slight chipping next to the winding holes. Japy Frere's mark on the movement backplate Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.
