About the Item

1930’s English Marquee Cinema Letter – A. Classic English cinema letters used at cinemas as signage for the film title, actors and so on. Made in acrylic plastic they slotted into tracks on the billboard. The term marquee comes from the French word Marquise, a name given by French soldiers in the 17th Century to a large fabric tent, and then adopted to cover the ‘tent’ like entrance over the entrance to cinemas and theatres. Listing is for one letter as shown. Judging by the condition, these are new old stock or certainly rarely used. Workshop Report: Our workshop team inspect every product and carry out any needed repairs to ensure that everything leaves us serviced and maintained ready for many more years of life. All of our vintage products show the rich beauty and history of their life with the knocks and bumps of many years of use and we try to minimise restoration to keep every piece as original as possible.
