Description:
Small inkwell made of carved wood in the shape of a walnut. The lid is hinged and can be opened. The exterior is decorated with punched textures and incised floral motifs. The top bears the inscription “GRENOBLE / IMPORTÉ DE SUISSE”. Inside sits a clear, faceted glass inkwell.
Interesting facts:
Finely carved souvenir pieces like this were commonly produced in Switzerland around 1900 and sold through the tourism trade. The materials, execution, and inscription clearly identify this piece as an export article.
