About the Item

Rare and extremely important Russian silver paper knife, it was probably made as a presentation gift to someone in the royal family, either the British or the Russian, the knife was made in the second half of the 19th century, in Moscow but the makers mark is not determined, on the knife which is designed as a pair of canoe paddles, and some silver "ropes" on them, its a proper nautical theme, and near the paddles there is a small boy, dressed like a sailor, with a knife to his hip and a compass near it, on his head there is a sailors hat in the early 19th century taste. after making some research on the child, we found out it is the depiction of king Edward VII, it was made from looking at the famous painting painted by Franz Xaver Winterhalter in 1846, the portrait shows king Edward VII when he was 5 years old dressed like a sailor exactly as the amazing realistic silver sculpture in front of us. real object or royalty, a great addition to any desk, or any silver collection.
