About the Item
Sculpture by Swiss born artist Amalia Schulthess, c.1967, Los Angeles.
Schulthess immigrated to the USA in the early 1940's. She was best known for her large scale works of art. Originally a painter alongside friends like Georgia O’Keefe, Amalia transitioned to her 3D works of art at a friends recommendation who felt her work would translate better three dimensionally. Amalia honed her craft for sculpting in Pietrasanta, Italy where she fell in love with the medium of Carrara marble. Amalia continued to travel throughout her life often between Los Angeles, Italy, Bali and Indonesia, to find inspiration for her work, until her early 1990's.

Amalia Schulthess
Amalia Schulthess grew up in Thurgau, Switzerland and immigrated to America in 1941. She was the subject of a retrospective at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art in 1976.
