About the Item

Ceramic mask on walnut frame, Tom R PORTER, London. Walnut frame 26.5 x W17 cm Ceramic Mask H19.5 x W11.5 cm From the series Countenance or Cara, presented in 2024 at 'ROSTOS' in Melides, Portugal. Tom Porter presents a diverse selection of hand-sculpted ceramic masks, which are framed by Project 213A. Crafted around the concept of parody these pieces appear both humorously naive and daring at once. The variety of scale invites the viewer to go beyond their first instinctive feelings and explore Cara’s character and emotions. Whilst colourful and bold the masks sit silently; their countenance frozen, hostage to their garish beauty. Artist background: Tom Porter is a London-based artist known for his multidisciplinary approach to creative expression. His background in photography led him to experiment with developing images of his ceramics as well as everyday objects. Tom graduated with a photography BA from Falmouth University in 2013 and moved in 2016 to London where he assisted in the field of interior design and also working with White Rabbit Studios. Tom creates unique and tactile art that can sit within printed or physical form.
