About the Item

Mid-Century Modern Ceramic Sculpture by Alessio Tasca, Italy, 1970s Designer Biography : "Tasca was born 1929. He studied at the Art Institutes of Nove, Venice and Florence. He comes from a family of potters and started to work with clay early, first with his brothers (production of huge panels in coloured majolica and figurative elements in modern style) then in his own studio which during the 1960s and 1970s became an important meeting place for artists. That was the time when Gio Ponti was often visiting and exploring new ideas in that area and when the international recognition of the design magazine Domus was at its peak. Gifted, rebellious, inventive, attentive of his own culture and of international events, Tasca in the late 1960s discovered in the extruder (an old mechanical industrial machine) his working companion for his extremely prolific production. An inventive idea that represented a unique creative process in which the working methodologies of 'industrial design' (projected towards mass production) and crafts qualities were merged into one. It followed a decade or so later that the idea of production of small series, according to ethical and ideological beliefs which sacrifice the idea of art to the idea of crafts values prevailed in Tasca. The production of those years, sustained by a large number of collaborators, was well and significantly present in the Italian and European design scene. The V&A Museum, among others, started to buy his work. "

Giacomo Onestini ceramic sculpture Italy 1970
By Giacomo Onestini
Located in Roosendaal, Noord Brabant
Beautiful ceramic sculpture designed by Giacomo Onestini made in his own atelier in Italy in 1970. It has a combination of matte and shiny glazed surfaces. The back and sides of the sculpture have a textured surface with shades of gray, green, and sometimes turquoise. On the front, there's a carved-out section that's smooth and glazed with red and gold hues. It's a very appealing and intriguing piece. You can find the artist's signature, "Onestini," on the side of the sculpture. This piece was created in the artist's personal studio. Very nice large sized, heavy piece and in excellent condition. After graduating as a master ceramist, Onestini moved to San Marino where he found employment at the "Marmaca" ceramics factory. Around the end of the 1950s, he moved to Salerno and began working with the "Ernestine...
