About the Item

Hand-painted ceramic plate made by Ernesto Treccani in the 1970s. Ø cm 20 h cm 15.5 Ernesto Treccani was an Italian painter, engraver, and writer, a prominent figure in the Italian artistic and cultural scene of the 20th century. Born in Milan in 1920, the son of the famous publisher Giovanni Treccani, he dedicated his life to art and politics, becoming one of the protagonists of the artistic and anti-fascist movement "Corrente." Raised in a cultured and stimulating environment, Ernesto Treccani approached art at a young age. His artistic training was influenced by historical avant-gardes and the artistic movements of his time. In 1938, at just 18 years old, Treccani was among the founders of the "Corrente" group, an artistic movement that aimed to unite art with the political struggle against fascism. Through his works, Treccani denounced social injustices and the atrocities of war. The work of Treccani is characterized by a great variety of themes and expressive languages. From the early works of social denunciation, created during the Corrente period, it moves to the landscapes and portraits of the following years, up to the graphic experiments and sculptures of the last years of his life.
