19th Century French Dog and Rabbit Gilt Bronze Sculpture Signed P. Lecourtier

About the Item

Decorate a shelf or man's office with this wonderful antique gilt sculpture composition. Created in France, circa 1890, the detailed artwork features a realistic pointer standing on rocky ground and hording a rabbit in the mouth. The elegant sculpture is signed on the base by French sculptor P. Lecourtier with a plaque on the front which reads: "Merci E. W.". The hunt composition is in excellent condition, and adorns a rich patinated bronze dore finish. For an avid hunter,place it in a ranch or hunting lodge. Listed in the Benezit. Prosper Lecourtier (1851-1924), was a French sculptor. Very little is known about the personal life of this exceptional sculptor, but we do know that he studied under the famous bronze sculptor, Emmanuel Fremiet. Lecourtier is best known for his sculpture of farm animals like dogs and roosters, but his work encompasses all forms of animals including deer and boar, as well as equestrian groups. Listed in the Benezit (see last picture). Measure: 11" W x 4" D x 9" H.
