19th Century Kasli Cast Iron Horse Sculpture After Pierre-Jules Mêne

About the Item

Sculpture depicting an Arabian stallion with a long mane in an enclosure, named "Djinn". Cast in iron at the renowned Kasli Iron Foundry, located in the eastern Ural Mountains. The foundry was famous for its artistic cast iron works in the mid-19th century. The model was originally created in Paris in 1846 by the celebrated French animal sculptor Pierre-Jules Mêne (1810–1879), whose works are represented in major private and public collections as well as museums worldwide. This sculpture is crafted with exceptional artistic and technical quality, featuring fine detailing, elegant patination, and a refined finish. What makes this piece particularly noteworthy is that it is cast in iron – a rarity, as Mêne's works were most often produced in bronze in France. This version is believed to have been made in Tsarist Russia between 1860 and 1870, making it highly rare and valuable as a collector's item. Origin: Russia, circa 1860–70.
