About the Item
Charles Lemanceau was born in 1905 in Paris. In 1923, he worked for Primavera.
In 1925, he exhibited in the Salon d'Automne with his fellows Eugene Printz, Louis Sognot, Van Dongen, Vlaminck, Raoul Dufy, Jean Dunand, Henri Matisse, Le Corbusier, Jules Leleu, Robert Mallet-Stevens, Fernand Leger and Maurice Utrillo.
In this period, he worked for Saint-Clement and DIM.
From 1930, he worked for Maurice Dufrene, Primavera and Sainte-Radegonde.
He was a specialist of animal sculptures, and is one of the most important sculptors in the French Art Deco period.
These 3 ceramics here are one of famous works An Elephant with calf. All signed. Black, White and Red.
There are some small restorations to the bas, see pics. The figures themselves, have no damages or restorations.
All figures are marked on the base. Impressed signature.
